The sneaker industry is on a continuous mission to move towards a more sustainable future. All kinds of innovations are being tested to reduce the ecological footprint of footwear production. The latest one is Sneakerness and #tide’s 100% recycled shoelaces that are set to release in spring 2020.

Sneakers and Sustainability

Recently, Adidas‘s Futurecraft Loop project and Kanye West‘s recycled algae YEEZY CLOG showed an example of more sustainable footwear. Now, it is the Swiss company #tide which is working on shoelaces made of 100% recycled ocean material. This new project is born in collaboration with Swiss sneaker convention Sneakerness.

#Tide’s Mission

#tide-sneakersness

Every year, more than eight million tons of plastic trash land in the ocean. #tide’s mission is to help reduce this problem.

The company was created to clean oceans as well as to promote a more sustainable lifestyle. In fact, through the years, #tide has teamed up with different organizations to take what already exists and use it to produce innovative and sustainable materials.

As for Sneakerness, it is a leading sneaker convention organization with events in major European cities such as Zurich, Amsterdam, London, Paris, Milan, Cologne, and Rotterdam.

100% recycled shoelaces

Every Sneakerness x #tide kit will contain a pair of shoelaces and a bracelet. Each of them will be made out of 100% ocean plastic and created using a sustainable process.

The raw material, ocean plastic, will be crushed and processed into granules and yarns. Even this transformation process will be focused on sustainability. In fact, its energy will be provided by solar power.

The final product will come in a two-tone color scheme, which will be a nod to the image of both collaborative brands. First, Sneakerness’s signature black will appear on the yarns. Then, #tide’s rich blue will supply the accents. Take a closer look just below!

Release Date of Sneakerness x #tide 100% recycled shoelaces
