Obviously, the larger ones have much more buying power and can demand transparency and access from their partners. But they are still in that situation where you can’t sell a $200 sneaker that turns into a sponge a month later if you get caught in the rain” – Altman
“We are on a mission to become 100 % life-cycle managed by 2023” – Kyle Housman, president of Native Shoes.
“The Plant Shoe was inspired by Native Shoes’ mission to become 100 % lifecycle managed by 2023” – Michael Belgue, Creative Director of Native Shoes
The Goal
The goal is to ensure that all products offered by Native Shoes can be reused in one form or another by 2023. “The Plant Shoe” is the next important step towards achieving this goal. The next step beyond this current recycling initiative is to create something that would not need to be reused or recycled, but that would produce no waste. Something that is born of the earth and could go back there.
To help with that aspiration, in 2018, Native partnered with Zappos for Good to launch the Remix Project. The project is to collects worn Native Shoes and recycles them into materials for community playgrounds.
